Yeti- A Himalayan Kitchen

This is Delhi. Traditionally we’ve been content with our street food: the chaats and the samosas. When we’re not eating Chaat (or Chhole Bhature, a personal favourite), we like Dosas, Chowmien and Pizzas. We never cared much for regional Indian food and we couldn’t even imagine Nepalese and Bhutanese food. If Yeti is having a successful run that must reflect well on Delhi’s palate. Yeti serves Nepalese, Bhutanese and Tibetan food.

Beer and wine: Yes

What we ate:

Sun dried Spinach

A most remarkable dish. I guess you can dehydrate anything in the Sun like lemons in Iraqi food, and it always seems to enhance the flavor. It reminded me a lot of another childhood favourite : sun dried cauliflower. Aromatic, rubbery, spicy, it was perfect.

Datchi Chicken:

A Bhutanese gravy dish made with cheese, chilli and butter.

I was a little apprehensive after aimless surfing about Bhutanese food had led me to this warning: ‘It is said that we can enjoy three parts for one meal; one is mouth, another part is stomach, and the last part is at toilet in the next morning’  (!!)

Infact, it was a mild flavorful 10/10 curry.

Shekwa: Charcoal grilled mutton pieces. (Rs 250/-)

That was a mistake. Theirs, not ours. The quality of the mutton was bad, it hadn’t been properly marinated and the taste had gone beyond charred and smoky into burnt and bitter territory.

The meal, by then, had taken the the feel of a small budget indie film- cherished more for its intentions than for its skill.

On the way back from Yeti we got caught in the first heavy shower preceding the monsoon. Despite the big cars stuck in little whirlpools on roads that will wear the ploughed look the next morning, it was a pleasant enough drive because our tummies were happy.  Hence we decided to forget the disgraceful mutton and put Yeti in the ‘highly recommended’ category.

Wish it good health and a long life.
